Credit Repair After The Short Sale.

Here's How To Restore Credit Score

Hi folks. Today I want to talk a little bit about Credit Restoration. As many of you may know TLW and I went through a very difficult time from 2008-2010. We ended up having to do Short Sales on two of our investment properties. This teamed with some other financial difficulties caused my credit score to plunge into the toilet!! I started in the mid 700s in 2008 and ended up with a FICO score of 561.

Ain’t that sweet?

So needless to say I needed to do something about this. I did my research and found Financial Education Services (FES).

I signed up about a month ago for their Credit Repair Plan to start Restoring My Credit Score  Just this week I received my first batch of Credit Dispute Letters to send out to the credit bureaus. I’m looking forward to receiving my results and my new higher credit score.

I’m very satisfied with the ease of use for this Credit Restoration Program.

Then I decided if this was good enough for me then it would be a good opportunity to help my Short Sellers restore their credit score after their Short Sale. This will help them get back into the position to purchase a home again. And of course a higher score means better rates on just about everything from credit cards to insurance. I owe it to my Short Sellers to offer them this opportinity.

AND.....for the folks that may be struggling financially they now have the opportunity to turn this into their own Credit Repair Business. They can start generating income while going through the Credit Repair Program themselves.

It’s a true WIN/WIN

After Hurricane Sandy those that had good credit are finding out even if the credit reporting companies have them on the list as being affected it still does not matter.  Credit scores have fallen for them because of late payment or insurance claims that have not paid the losses.

sounds good but not allowed here in Maryland. A conflict of interest between being a Realtor and managing someones credit score.

That's interesting Martha. In this case the "agent" for FES never touches or does anything with the credit repair process. It's handled by the company. The agent sells the service. Of course this affiliation should be disclosed. Good pointthough. Always check your state's laws before inmplementinhg anything found here on AR or any where else. What I do may not be allowed. And of course a real estate agent does not have to be an agent with FES to refer their services. They just wouldn't get a referral fee. The service is better than the fee anyway :)

Richard. What's happening now is that some lenders are placing a foreclosure on peoples credit when they are still actively doing a short sale and have not been foreclosed on and reporting short sales as foreclosures after they have closed. These are both errors that should be corrected.

Good information to pass onto those needing help with their credit scores, Bryant.  With the proper business affilation disclosures you should be able to get over the "conflict of interest" in most other states.

I recommend a loan officer who helps people repair scores for free.  I've had to let clients work with him between 6 months and two years before they were ready to purchase, but I always stay in touch.

Regardless of which credit repair company you affiliate with, be sure that they are not just flooding the credit bureaus with dispute letters of legitimate and accurate derogatories. This unscrupulous strategy provides a temporary credit score boost but eventually the paper trail catches up with the consumer, but not before they wrote the check to the credit repair company.
